Accessibility

How this site approaches accessibility, what is checked, and how to report a barrier.

Commitment

Diligent is a tool for auditing U.S. government websites and digital services. The site you are reading should meet the standard it asks of others. The applied standard is WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and text colors are held to the AAA contrast ratio.

What is in place

  • A skip link to the main content on every page.
  • Header, navigation, main, and footer landmarks, and an accessible name on every section.
  • Tables have captions and row headers. The tables in the docs also have column headers.
  • Keyboard focus shows a 3-pixel outline with a 2-pixel offset. Pointer focus draws no ring.
  • On touch screens, small controls grow to 44 pixels tall. The menu button stays at 40 pixels.
  • With a reduced-motion setting, smooth scrolling is off and animations shrink to a short fade, with no movement or blur.
  • External links carry a screen-reader label and a visual arrow.
  • Decorative icons are hidden from assistive technology.
  • Text colors are checked for 7:1 contrast on every build.
  • Fonts are self-hosted and swap in without blocking the text.
  • No flashing content and no media that plays on its own.

How it is checked

Every build runs automated gates: valid HTML, 7:1 text contrast, no third-party requests, motion durations within limits, and a strict content security policy. A browser test suite covers keyboard reach of the main controls. These checks are not a WCAG conformance review, and this site has not yet been tested with a screen reader.

Known limitations

The gate model on the home page uses switch controls from the Arc component library. They have not been tested with a screen reader. The help output dialog and the phase rail are custom components with the same gap. If you hit a barrier in any of them, please report it.
